Concept Statement:

For our group animation project, we decided to create an animation that stayed within the theme of a cute, adorable story. Our animation uses cuteness and other moral and self-evaluating concepts to portray this story. The main character is a little lion named Niko who is raised happily in the jungle by his mother and father (the king of the jungle). When Niko is young, he runs around, plays with all the other animals and enjoys everything around him. However, as Niko grows up and matures, he finds that one thing may keep him from being the king of the jungle one day like his father… he can’t grow a long, luscious mane. Soon, other jungle animals such as the elephant, giraffe and snake begin to notice this and make fun of Niko. He becomes sad and wonders what he can do to gain the power he is missing without a mane. One day after getting made fun of by the other animals, Niko runs off deep into the jungle to look for anything that may help him gain the other animals adoration and acceptance. He looks up and down and under rocks and through the trees, but he cannot find anything. All of a sudden, a small monkey swinging through the trees stops to see what was wrong. Niko told him that all the other animals make fun of him because he doesn’t have a long, luscious mane like his father so he will never be the king of the jungle like him. The monkey smiles and tells Niko to stay put because he has an idea. A little while goes by and Niko’s family and the other animals start to notice that he has been gone for a while and they all gather at the tree line. All of a sudden the bushes start to shake and Niko bursts out from the trees. However, this time on top of his head lays the most beautiful mane that any of the animals had ever seen. The monkey had gathered beautiful wild flowers and plants and created a big, luscious mane. His mother and father as well as all the other jungle animals, cheered for him in awe. His mother and father approach him as his father places the crown on top of his head, as the new king of the jungle. The family hugs and all the animals cheer and celebrate for Niko. The End. We hope that this animation will bring forth many ideas of self-acceptance and love. We may be hard on our selves, get made fun of or even fail. We cannot be afraid to look or ask for help. We have the beauty and splendor within us without being the “perfect” person and that is all that matters. We hope this animation serves as a reminder that even in a negative world full of hate and troubles, beauty still exists and can always be found.

Reflection:

Our group worked really well together. None of us had experience with this program before this project, so it was quite the challenge at first. However, when we struggled, we were able to ask each other for help and try to work everything out. We came to a consensus on the story and the frame for our project all-together and created backgrounds and characters together. We were very crunched at the end for time, but worked very well to get it all finished and put together in the end. We are pleased with how our animation turned out and everyone in our group.

  1. The concept is very cute, the ending was my favorite part with the flower mane! Some parts of the animation were a little delayed or jumpy, and it would have been nice to have more time to read the text, but otherwise it flowed nicely from scene to scene. I enjoyed the block characters.

  2. I thought that your animation was very creative. The graphics were outstanding and the concept was super cute. I felt that the animation flowed well and you couldn't tell that there was three different animators. The characters were all really well developed. For the amount of time you had I feel that this animation is very well put together. The only thing that I feel this animation is missing is the movement of the characters legs. However, I feel that overall this animation accomplished the goal that your group set out to cover. Very well developed story and adorable animation. I give this animation 5 stars.

  3. I think you did a good job capturing the feel of 'cute'. The art style and story really helped to bring that out in your animation. The sequence of scenes were logical and made sense in the context of the story. I think it could have been improved with a little more animation (a lot of what was done was sliding the objects across the scenery and no animation inside the characters) and slowing down the text to make sure the viewers don't miss any story information.

    4/5 *Stars*

  4. this was very creative. The concept was very childlike and matched the theme of the group. The animations were simple in terms of motion but it fit the style and the style was cohesive throughout the animation. There a few times where text got in the way but other than that it was was really great. Even the font choice matched the story.

  5. I really enjoyed your animation. I think it was really cute and that was what you were going for so I think you succeed well on that. The graphics were really well done. To take it a step further, you could have animated the walking a little more instead of just moving them across the screen. I can tell that you guys put the time and effort into your animation. A voice over would have been interesting as well. But the sound that you added was nice. I give it 5 stars.

  6. I liked how well everything worked together in this theme. The animation and the elements of a picture book bring it together and make something uniquely creative here. Some parts were seemingly inserted without reason, but the story was still easy to follow the entire animation. I'd say this was 4 and a half stars.

  8. I really appreciated how the whole animation looked well put together, it looks like the design was all crated by one person instead of being split into three sections, which made everything flow well with each other. I also liked how there was always background noise of the forrest going on which was a nice subtle touch. The concept of finding oneself was also a nice theme to create a happy mood.
